Waste Not Center Updates
December 2006 Update
This is to wish you and yours a Happy Holiday and to let you know that Santa has already been good to the Waste Not Center and we will be stocked with many new things when you shop next. For example, we have about 30 gingerbread houses that will be limited 1 per customer and will surely go fast. Sorry: no "lay-always" by phone. They were donated by Bath & Body Works.
Check out the webpage for updated hours and days of operation.
For those who may not have heard, our silent auction was a huge success. We had 49 items donated for sale and 41 were purchased. We raised over $800 and 60 people attended.
Other good news is that a corporate donor provided a gift of $5000 to the Center. We plan to use the funds for scholarship-memberships for individuals and organizations that can demonstrate extraordinary financial hardship. In return we will ask for some volunteer time from the recipients. Procedures to apply for such scholarships will be developed by the Waste Not Center Committee and communicated at a later time.
Finally - don't forget our Kroger and Giant Eagle purchase certificates by which those stores rebate back to the Waste Not Center 5 % of all the money you spend there. If we can get 100 people spending $50 per week at those two stores using these certificates, that equates to $12,500 per year of income to the Waste Not Center. That will pay our rent. So it really adds up! I hope you will get on board. If you do not know about this Program, please inquire.
Emily Plews, our Volunteer Center Manager, and I look forward to seeing you on your next visit to the Center.
